Undergraduate

In addition to submitting a complete application for admission to the University of South Carolina, students wishing to enroll in the School of Music as music majors or minors must audition for the School of Music. The audition serves as both an admissions entrance audition and a scholarship audition.

Undergraduate applicants are encouraged to apply for admission and schedule their audition as soon as possible. Auditions dates for the following academic year are usually set in the Fall.

For prospective freshmen at the University of South Carolina: You should have applied for admission to USC before you perform your audition, as the application deadlines happen prior to our official audition dates. For more information on application deadlines, please visit USC’s Admissions page. Although you should have applied to USC before you audition, you do not need to know for certain whether your application was accepted or denied prior to visiting for your audition; most applicants will find their USC applications are still pending when we hear their auditions.

For prospective transfer students at the University of South Carolina: Transfer students have more time to apply to USC, as the deadline for transfer students applying for entry for the Fall usually have until the previous summer to apply. However, transfer students should plan to audition on one of the above dates in order to be reviewed for Fall music admission and music scholarships. Transfer students who plan to start in Spring should plan to audition on the December audition date.

These scheduled School of Music auditions are for those who hope to major or minor in music and for students of all majors who hope to be reviewed for music scholarships. Apply online here.

All auditions are held on the USC campus in Columbia, South Carolina. Prospective guitar students are also encouraged to visit the campus when classes are in session to sit in on guitar-related classes and attend guitar performances. Please contact Christopher Berg to arrange these visits.

A recorded audition (cassette, CD, MP3, YouTube, etc.) may be submitted in lieu of a live audition if a campus visit is not possible. Candidates accepted through a recorded audition will be required to play a live audition once on campus.
